Pumpkin Pie Spice
One of the best things about living here in Denver is the fall season which is my all time favorite. Right around the end of September the leaves start changing, the weather starts cooling down, and the baking season BEGINS! This is when I start getting my sugar pumpkins at the grocery store to make pumpkin puree and everything you can make with it, same with zucchinis, my favorite vegetable.
The great thing about baking with pumpkin is not only the pumpkin itself but the spices you use to enhance its flavor which are usually cinnamon, ginger and nutmet. Hardcore fans, like myself, like to raise it up a notch and bake with pumpkin pie spice which includes the spices mentioned earlier plus a few others like allspice and cloves. You use this in any baking recipe that calls for pumpkin (or zucchini) and you’ll end up with the most incredible flavor.
Now, you can buy pumpkin pie spice at any grocery store which can cost anywhere from almost $5 for a small container, all the way up to $18 for a bigger one. But why spend all that much when you can easily make it at home at a fraction of a cost? It makes perfect sense to me to make to make it myself and make as much as I want or as little as I want with a lot less money. Below is the recipe I always use to make it and I’m sure you will also fall in love with it.

Pumpkin Pie Spice
- Yield: 4 oz 1x
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 3 tsp nutmeg
- 3 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp allspice
- 2 tsp ground cloves
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a small bowl and store them in an airtight container.
